The outer tube is called shell side, and the inner tube side is called tube side. Two different media can flow (or be in the same direction) in the shell side and tube side to achieve the effect of heat transfer.
Double tubular heat exchanger is composed of concentric inner tube and outer tube. The hot and cold fluid flows in the gap between the inner tube and the casing respectively and exchanges heat at the same time.
